Will Timberwolves’ Rudy Gobert Play Game 2 vs. Nuggets?
Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert is uncertain for Monday’s Game 2 against the Denver Nuggets due to personal reasons after becoming a father for the first time. His availability has become one to monitor after being listed as questionable on the NBA injury report.

According to ESPN, Gobert’s baby boy was delivered on Monday morning, and it is unclear if he can travel to Denver in time for the tip-off.

Gobert, a finalist for his fourth Defensive Player of the Year award, had a strong performance in the Timberwolves’ Game 1 win, with 6 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks, and a steal.

The 11-year veteran has been a crucial part of Minnesota’s playoff success, averaging 13.2 points, 11.4 rebounds, 1.2 blocks, and 1.2 steals per game as the third-seeded Timberwolves opened the playoffs with five consecutive wins.

The Timberwolves will face the defending champion Nuggets in Game 2, and Gobert’s status remains uncertain. His presence would significantly boost the team’s chances, but the team will prioritize his personal situation.

If Gobert cannot play, it’ll be a much more challenging set of circumstances for the Timberwolves to account for Aaron Gordon in the dunker spot while trying to slow down Nikola Jokic since Gobert thrived as the roamer.
